Tongue & Table

Seasonal gatherings for women rooted in storytelling and nourished by the abundance of local food.

Come, gather around our long wooden table, where the old ways stir and the oral tradition breathes again. On the Fall Equinox, we will meet beneath the high beams of a sacred space in New Mexico to share stories and feast on food grown from the land and prepared by local hands.

A Storytelling Evening

In this first, holy gathering of Tongue & Table - we will be centering our storytelling around land and home, place and belonging. You are welcome to move through this theme in any way that you like.

If you need some inspiration…

We could tell a story about homesickness or longing around home or place. We could tell a story about our love of certain places and why we love those places. We could tell a story about our first home, our favorite home, a home that surprised us, changed us, let us grieve. We could tell a story about a home we only had for a moment, a home we had for too long, a home where something magical happened, a home where something terrifying arose. We could tell a story about floorboards or drywall. We could tell a story about renovation. We could tell a story about relocation, natural disasters or the erasure of home. We could tell a story about immigration, traveling or starting over in a new home.

Find a story that feels right for you, that feels alive for you and write it, tell it.

Guidelines for Storytelling

Prepare your story by either writing it down or speaking it out loud. Either way, read it or speak it out loud before you bring it to our table. Practice with others, in front of the mirror, in front of your dog. When we speak our stories out loud, we activate the process of story alchemy. We activate the story. The story begins to live and breathe. We may even begin to meet some of our characters in real life.

Each story needs to be kept under five minutes.
You do not need to have any past experience telling stories or preforming.
We are all storytellers. We are all orators. We just need to find the right able to sit at.

This table will be a safe space to tell vulnerable stories, funny stories and stories that may not fit anywhere else. Amidst our stories, we will find friends, loves of our lives and stories that serve as a kind of healing balm.

About the Table

Our food for the evening will be a delicious collection of local food from farmers we love as well as products from our own farm. Everything will be organic. Everything will be local. (Okay, except for maybe the olive oil but we shall see.)

Dinner will be prepared by Heathar and will be gluten free, prepared without using processed sugars and without using any vegetable oils. We will also be providing biodynamic wines to serve with the meal. Official menu coming soon!
